>Today I got the ingredients to make my first homemade dirty martinis.

There's a bartender at Corbett's that can make them taste like they have no alcohol... it's like you're drinking olive flavored, crisp water... yet they nail you to the floor. That's the kind of dirty martini I want to make.

Someone suggested that I should blog about each martini I make... so here it is. ;)

First martini - I followed this recipe:

2 oz vodka
1 tbsp dry vermouth
2 tbsp olive juice
2 olives

1. Place an ice cube and a small amount of water in a cocktail glass. Place in freezer for 2 - 3 minutes.

2. Fill a mixer with all ingredients including garnish. Cover and shake hard 3 - 4 times.

3. Remove cocktail glass from freezer, and empty. Strain contents of the mixer into the cocktail glass, include one of the olives, and serve with a mysterious smile.

I followed this to the T, except for the serving with a mysterious smile part. The martini tasted like vodka that had a side of bacon shaken with it *yup, it was THAT strong and salty*. Plus, the 2 - 3 minute freezer time wasn't long enough so it was a warm martini as well... yuck!

Lessons learned:
- More freezer time
- Less vermouth, perhaps?
- Some water, for crying out loud :eek:
- Less olive juice
