>This laptop turns me on.

>Yeah, go ahead and say it. I'm a nerd. I know it.

My HP Pavillion dv7-2180us arrived today. I always mean to take screenshots of the packaging on the electronics I review but I always forget to get the camera out in the midst of the excitement of getting something new, electronic, and shiny, lol.

Some nifty features that weren't mentioned in the specifications:

  • You can turn your mousepad on and off. Very handy if you keep accidently bumping it.
  • The laptop is actually capable of supporting 3 monitors including its own screen.
  • The keyboard has a full numeric keypad. You don't find this too often on laptops.
  • The laptop comes with a free Windows 7 upgrade.

Here's the Windows Experience Index:
  • Base score: 5.0
  • Processor: 5.8
  • Memory: 5.0
  • Graphics: 5.9
  • Gaming Graphics: 5.6
  • Primary hard disk: 5.8

Let me tell you that this laptop is not only fast but it glides smooth as silk through multitasking. Even with all of HP's default software running it never showed any signs of lag. At first the sound was disappointing until I discovered that the speaker volume was only set to 50% in the audio settings. Vista and all of HP's software only takes up 92% of the HDD. I almost cried when I saw that because it was so beautiful.

The screen resolution doesn't make for anywhere near as bad of an experience as I was expecting. In fact, so far I mostly noticed the difference when I first started the laptop, but quickly adapted to it because it was quite acceptable.

Right now I'm working on getting everything updated, software installed, and files moved over. Once I'm settled in some I will start running some benchmark tests on this laptop to see what it can really do.
