You Don't Lose When You Lose Fake Facebook Friends

12:37 PM

When you were down they were never there
When you're all alone you really get to learn
If you get back up they gonna come around
All the sycophants they love to make romance
To the ugly sound of 'em tellin' you what you
Wanna hear an' you pretend

Cuz they all agree you're supposed to have a better life
But you're feelin' worse
An' they build you up till you fool yourself that you're
Something else an' it's like a curse cause
You can't live up to what they made of you
An' they tell you that you're losin' friends

Losin' friends, losin' friends
Ya got nothin to lose
Ya don't lose when you lose fake friends

Ya go an tell 'em you were king of the hill
When ya need a hand - that was yesterday
Ya see 'em laugh while you're on your knees
An' it breaks your heart cuz ya gave so much
An' ya can't believe that ya hit the gound an'
Ya notice ya been losin' friends

Losin' friends, losin' friends
Ya got nothin to lose
Ya don't lose when you lose fake friends

~ "Fake Friends" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

This song makes me think of Facebook. People are so fake on Facebook... if the world was like Facebook in real life everyone would have a perfect life with no problems. If you talk about your problems on Facebook you're accused of creating drama even if you're just really wanting some good advice or a listening ear from someone. Yet the real drama going on is the fake lives people lead on that website. This falseness has led in to a new diagnosis called Facebook depression, which is what happens when someone spends too much time looking at all the "happiness" of other people on Facebook. It's a contest to see who can be the most successful, have the most friends, be noticed the most, etc.

I used to enjoy Facebook, but not so much any more. That's because on Facebook people used to be honest and I felt closer to them. Now days they are secretive, only posting good news, and I don't feel close to them at all. Facebook has became a place for me to go when I just don't have anything better to do, and it's rare that I can't find something better to do.

I've considered deactivating my Facebook account entirely, but there are people I would like to stay in touch with that have made Facebook their preferred medium of contact. So I'm stuck with it, even though I don't like it.

  1. Maybe they are not faking, maybe they are truly happy and your just bitter because your not. Might I suggest you work more on what is wrong with you than judging others.

  2. First of all, I'm not judging anyone. Second of all, no one is happy 100% of the time. Nice try but you're way off the mark.
