How To Upgrade The LG Optimus V to Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0

9:32 AM

1. First you will need to backup your LG Optimus V's current OS. Go to the Android Play Store (Market) and download ROM Manager.

2. In ROM Manager, select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and wait for it to finish.

3. In ROM Manager, select "Backup Current ROM" and wait for it to finish.

4. Go here and download signed_ICSandwich v3.zip.

5. Put signed_ICSandwich v3.zip on your LG Optimus V's SD card.

6. Reboot in to recovery mode by pressing the volume down, home, and power buttons on the LG Optimus V all at the same time.

7. Select "install zip from sdcard" by using the volume buttons to navigate and the camera  button to accept. Next, select signed_ICSandwich v3.zip on your SD card. Select "yes" when prompted and wait for the installation to finish.

8. When it finishes select "reboot system now". Once the system reboots you should now have Android Ice Cream Sandwich on your LG Optimus V. Congrats! :)

9. If anything goes wrong, reboot in to recovery mode and select "backup and restore". Next select "Restore". The date of your backup should come up next. Select it and allow the backup to finish, then reboot your phone.

  4. How do I perform step 2 when the Optimus V is not on the list of devices to choose from when attempting the Flash Recovery?

  5. I'm not sure what you're talking about. When I wrote this, all you had to do was open up ROM Manager and select Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and it did the rest. Could you give more information on what you're seeing? A picture of the screen would really help if you're able to take one.

  6. Does phone have to be rooted beforehand? Yup, I'm new, thanx!

  7. Yes, it does. I will fix this article when I get the chance... sorry I forgot to add instructions on how to root it. You will need to use Gingerbreak to root it, you can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765

  8. After installing ICS, do all of your apps need to be re-downloaded/installed?

  9. Also, I currently have Froyo. Do I have to upgrade to Gingerbread first?

  10. Yes, this is a ROM, so all your apps and phone data will need to be redone. You're basically installing a new operating system on your phone, like re-installing Windows, so everything will be like when you first got the phone. You don't need to upgrade to do this, since you're not just updating the system, you're installing a new one.

    2. I *think* you're saying that you can't use Clockwork on an Optimus V, but I know this isn't true because I had it working on MY Optimus V when I had it... thus why I wrote this article. It was written based on my own actions with my own phone. So if you are having issues, be more specific, because obviously someone other than you got it to work, so there must be something else going on other than "it just doesn't work."

  12. Additionally, I have not owned this phone for years. It's not sold in stores any more, and I think it goes on Ebay for all of $20, if even that... it's a really, really crappy phone by today's standards. Please, just upgrade your damn cell phone. The LG Optimus Extreme goes for $50 on Net10 & Straight Talk & it's a MUCH better updated version of this same phone.
